Biography
I started painting seriously in 1997, soon after my retirement through the passion in art emerged way back in my childhood days. Since then creating art holds the key to my life journey. Art is a form of self expression that allows me to reach out to world surrounding me. At times experimental, my intuitive approach often leads me to new worlds of thought guided by the images materialising before my eyes. I need to dedicate myself to painting; it is my passion, and I have imposed it upon myself like a belief. My work is contemporary though at times appears with Islamic fondness . I have been an adherent of the Islamic art, especially calligraphy. Arabic calligraphy is the archetypical visual art form of Islam. Beside the beauty, the Arabic calligraphy represents power, extraordinary potency and inspirational significance. Since I developed my enthusiasm in this aspect of art I have been experimenting to apply the calligraphic square kufi style within the contemporary context. It manifests the capability of different types of art to integrate within the cultural dimension. Words and symbols are images become apparent in communication form. My painting continues my exploration of the Nusantara outback, in figurative and contemporary configuration...to demonstrate my love of color and seamless form. The emotion in my work comes from somewhere deep down, and can speak to the inner part of each person. I am interested in form and texture, I currently create both recognisable and abstract figures, forms that are genetic, yet diffuse, that can signify times or other subtle symbolism. My work is intuitive; Color is the language that I use to express an emotion. It is the interaction of colours that interests me. My shapes and lines infuse my paintings with exotic symbolism of connotation. There is purpose and psychology to my work, conveying a sense of confidence from a broad spectrum of experience. I am passionate about my cultural inheritance, so full of clarity and mystery, above all the dual never concept of the world: the known and the unknown. My paintings try to collect everything, establishing a bond with the past through forms and colours of the Nusantara. In my work I am guided by the form. The presence of gracefulness can be noted in my work, abstract and realistic forms that I create.

Distrii

9 Raffles Place, Republic Plaza, 048619

We must admit that putting up so many artworks is a big challenge to the ArtWallSt team who is only 3 months old. But we’re determined to turn this amazing workspace and office suites into a place where art is found in every nook and corner - the hidden alone-time corners, the pantry, the restroom areas, the stationary bicycle nook, the shared corridors and lobbies. A big shout out to the amazing art-loving Distrii’s CEO, Jo Hu, who shares our vision. Distrii has now officially been turned into a flexi-art gallery where its tenants and visitors get to work in the company of artworks from around the world!

Chancing upon the one masterpiece you could fall in love with could take a serendipitous round-the-world trip and many years of accidental encounters in galleries and adventure spots. At ArtWallStreet, we also believe that the love for art can begin at home.

In collaboration with Casa Mia Casa Tua, we’ve turned one of their coliving units at Oxley Mansions into an art gallery where tenants get to live with art and buy them off the wall when they leave.
